Frequently Asked Questions
How does YASS work?
With the help of the scripting functionality, YASS allows user information to be sent to a YASS server for later display in an image. This information is sent the same method that data on a webpage is sent, using the HTTP POST method. It is stored for the use of creating status images.
What information does YASS collect?
The following user data is sent and stored: display picture, nickname, personal message or current media, type of media (None, Music, Games or Office), a numeric value for status, a text form of status (including personalized statuses with Messenger Plus!), and the user's current timezone offset in numeric form. The user's Windows Live ID is also stored.
A user may at any time stop this program from sending this personal information using the options within the program.
Does YASS require Messenger Plus?
At the present time, the YASS client is only available for users who are using Windows Live Messenger and Messenger Plus! Live. If you are a developer who uses another instant messaging clinet, and you wish to create your own client version, take a look at the protocol documentation to enable communication with a YASS server.
What features make YASS stand out?
- Support for up to 10 different images that are highly user configurable.
- Full support for all Unicode characters. Depending on the font being used, the characters may or may not be displayed on an image.
- Usage of the office and games media icons, commonly obtained by using the AppMon+ script for Messenger Plus! Live.
- Instant updates to any changes in status information. No waiting for timers to pass and update your information!
- Language translations can be made.
- It's completely open source!
My language isn't listed. How can it be added?
All text for translation is located in the Languages folder (usually located at C:\Program Files\Messenger Plus! Live\Scripts\YASS\Languages) within XML files. Edit the lc_en.xml file containing the English text, and save a copy of the file, making sure the correct language prefix is in the file name. Once completed, your translation can be shared with others.
What are these status numbers?
Status numbers are used as a numeric representation of the text version. They are represented as follows:
2 - Offline
3 - Online
4 - Busy
5 - Be Right Back
6 - Idle
7 - Away
8 - In a Call
9 - Out to Lunch
